ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPETITION

Musica e Arte Cultural Association announces the 5th Edition of

MeA COMPOSITION CONTEST

“Musica e Arte Composition Contest” is open to students attending European Music Conservatories and European University Music Departments and to students graduated during the last five Years (2005-2009) from the same institutions.

There is not any age or nationality limitation.

Each Composer can submit one score only to the Contest..

The application fee to the Contest is of 50.00 Euro (fifty/00)

The Contest’s winner will receive 1,000 € (one thousand) and a copy of the “SibeliusSoftware. In case of ex-aequo the money award will be shared among the winners.

The 5th edition of the Contest is dedicated to unpublished scores, never performed and never awarded any prize for

CORTO D'OPERA
for Soprano, Tenor, and Chamber Orchestra
for the maximum timing of 15 minutes

INSTRUMENTS:

  • Soprano
  • Tenor
  • Winds: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (B flat)
  • Strings: 3 First Violins, 2 Second Violins, 2 Violas, Cello, Double Bass
  • Percussions (one player): Crash Cymbals, Snare Drum, Tambourine, Tam Tam Triangle Xylophone, Tom Tom, Bongos, Djembè

The text of the score, in Italian or English language, will be original or free by any permission and copyright, traslation included.

In order to facilitate the organization of the orchestra every applicant must use all the instruments or parts indicated in the list written above.

In order to enrol you must submit the application fee of 50.00 Euro by money order to:

Specifying as payment cause “Enrolment to the 5th Edition of MeA Composition Contest”

All the following material must be sent online via the site www.musicaearte.it:

  • a) the Score, size A4 [pdf file]
  • b) the text of the score in Italian or English language [word/rtf/txt file]
  • c) Completely filled out application form [online]
  • d) a copy of a valid I.D. [jpg file]
  • e) Receipt of application fee payment (50.00 Euro) [jpg file]
  • f) Curriculum Vitae (max 1000 digits, spaces included) [word/rtf/txt file]
  • g) A short text explanation about the Composition (max 1000 digits spaces included) [word/rtf/txt file]
  • h) Documentation of proof of enrolment in an Italian or European Conservatory of music, University of music, Hochschule, any recognized music academy for the 2008-2009 Academic Year, or in alternative a Diploma from one of these institutions obtained during the last 5 Years (2005-2009) [jpg file]

The complete documentation, in Italian or English, must be sent within midnight of the 30th OF JULY 2009 (extended) online or with e-mail at concorso@musicaearte.it.

The 3 Composers selected as finalists will be contacted by e-mail or phone.Then, they must send the following material:

  • a) extracted parts in A4 page size as well as the full score in A3 size for the conductor written with Finale or Sibelius software [pdf file]
  • b) a photo with 300 dpi resolution [formato tiff o jpg].

These items must be sent online or by e-mail within midnight of the 15th OF AUGUST 2009 (extended).

Other scores, even if not selected as finalists, can be chosen by the Association to be performed at large if considered artistically valid.

The materials sent for the Contest won’t be returned, and will remain in Association’s archive.

Since the premiere of a new composition is a moment of great responsibility, the Composers selected as finalists will be invited to the rehearsals as to work-out, with the Conductor, the best execution.

All travel expenses are responsibility of the finalists to the Contest.

The rehearsals will take place in Rome, Italy.

The final Concert will respect the following schedule:

Saturday, 26th of September 2009 – AUDITORIUM PARCO DELLA MUSICA – Goffredo Petrassi Hall – Rome

  • a) Execution of all the Compositions selected as finalists.
  • b) The Jury votes and declares the winner/s
  • c) Re-execution of the winning Composition/s
  • d) Award ceremony: The winner will receive Euro 1,000 (one thousand) and a copy of the “Sibelius“.

The Concert will be performed by Anna Catarci, soprano, Carlo Putelli, tenor, and the Piccola Orchestra ‘900 with Simone Veccia as Conductor.

The Jury can also decide not to award any Composition or to award more than one. In that case the winners will be considered as ex-aequo.

Juries of the 5th Edition will be the following:

Jury of Selection composed by 3 members of the Association Musica e Arte (two Composer and one Conductor)

Contest Jury composed by five members.

Judges will be selected before the deadline of the Contest.
